A Stairway to the Stars

A Stairway to the Stars:

Seattle, WA - As the song says, you can build a stairway to heaven and Glassworks' newest glass staircase definitely has taken flight. Conceived and designed in tandem with Paul Noborikawa, AIA, ASID of ADI Design Group, Inc. of Honolulu, HI and Darcey Builders, also of Honolulu, HI, the graceful set of stairs is the centerpiece for a new, residential island paradise.

Built with ½" thick, kiln-formed, slumped and tempered plate glass, the stairway starts at the ground floor and weaves a path to an expansive, open, second-story landing. Supported by a decorative wooden balustrade, the individual panels of Glassworks' glass present a clear, crystal design enhanced by the gentle texturing created during the slumping process.

A Stairway to the Stars:

To build the staircase, curved panels were fitted to individual templates and then set in place to form a glass-edged pathway. Conceived to reflect the overall ambiance of the home, the stairway defines the elegance and grace of the interior and exterior design. A perfect focal point for the new residence, the tempered glass design mirrors the gentle waves of the Hawaiian shoreline, yet offers a refreshing visual experience.

"Walking up the staircase is a bit like moving through an ice castle," says Glassworks owner, Tish Oye. "The glass presents a cool and serene environment but the warm island air that surrounds you comes directly from Pacific breeze." The graceful duality offers a balanced environment and creates a unique pathway that feels absolutely heavenly.
